Fighting Childhood Concussions with New Treatments, Protocols

It's hard to say which of my daughter's three soccer-related concussions was the worst.  The one when she fell, striking the back of her head on the hard turf (and, ugh, I was out of town)?  The header that dazed her and left her with a headache?  Or the collision with another player that dinged her near the temple?   

All were bad, but it was the third one that led her to drop the sport after the doctor warned that a fourth minor concussion could cause long-term cognitive issues.  So we traded the sport she loved for the head we all loved even more.  

The tough-it-out model has run its course. Concussion vigilance is now an athletic standard.
